From 1960 to 1996 and from 2001 to date the T
rotter family have lived in a 12th floor flat in Nelson Mandela House, Nyrere Estate, Peckham, London, SE15 which is a towerblock built in 1959-1960 on the site of an old ammunitions factory. The Trotter family have moved into the flat twice, in 1960 and again in 2001 when they lost their millions and Del had never sold the flat when they became millionaires.
1960-1981
In September 1960, the Trotter family Reg Trotter, Joan Mavis Trotter, their son Derek "Del Boy" Trotter and Reg's 54 year old father Ted Trotter, known as "Grandad", moved in. Joan was heavily pregnant at the time. The flat, being 12 floors up, offered spectacular stunning views - balconies and washing lines of neighbouring towerblocks.
In November 1960 Joan gave birth to baby Rodney Charlton Trotter. Reg was not the father, Joan had a relationship with Freddie "The Frog" - Freddie Robdal, Reg's friend. In 1963 Joan fell ill and died in March 1964. Reg walked out on the family soon after. Many photos of Joan had photos of Freddie Robdal in them so after her funeral, Reenie Turpin, Joan's friend took them out and burnt them apart from 2 close ups. This was to ensure that Rodney would not notice the "stimularities" between him and Freddie.
1981-1996
1996-2001 vacant
The Trotters swiftly moved out of Nelson Mandela House once they became millionaires. Del bought a country mansion and Rodney a Thames apartment. This meant, for the first time in 36 years, since the towerblock was built, nobody with the surname Trotter lived there anymore. Del paid one last visit to the flat, but decided not to put it on the market.
In 2001, the Trotters lost all their money in a stock market and were £50'000 in debt. They were not homeless, as their old flat was to become inhabited by the Trotters once again.
